Characterizing Canada's
Refugee Healthcare System
Amidst a Global Migration Crisis
We wanted to know:
1. Who provides care to refugees and asylum-seekers?
2. How are these services delivered and coordinated?
3. How do care structures and processes differ across jurisdictions in Canada?
4. What adaptations are made to accommodate rapid refugee resettlement initiatives?
We surveyed primary care, public, settlement, and other healthcare facilities in the 55 jurisdictions that received ≥50 Syrian refugees during the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Initiative to:
1. Creating Canada’s first Refugee Health System Atlas that maps out consenting refugee-serving health and settlement providers across Canada.
2. Understanding the different structures, processes, care models, and adaptations of these providers.
3.
Identifying barriers and challenges to refugee healthcare.
